Councilmember Nathaniel Bates is the senior member of the Richmond City Council. He began his tenure as a City Councilmember in 1967 and has since been re-elected several times; most recently in 2018. Over the 36 plus years of service, Councilmember Bates has served as vice-mayor and mayor to the City of Richmond. Councilmember Bates has a passion for helping the community; specifically the elderly. During his distinguished and storied career, Nat has received several State and National appointments and recognition awards. The list of community organizations that Councilman Bates has founded or led represents the true spirit of those of us living and working in Richmond; the spirit of community, the pride of ownership, and the joy of helping our neighbors.
