Retired Deputy Police Chief Ed Medina is a 27-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department. He started his career in law enforcement after serving 5 ½ years as a United States Marine, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA and abroad. He received an honorable discharge in 1987.
Ed rose through the ranks of the Richmond Police Department starting as a patrol officer. He was appointed to Deputy Chief of Police in May of 2006 and served the Richmond community and the department as second in command of the 300-person agency. He is an honored graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), which was held at Boston University. He also achieved an advanced executive certificate with California POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training). Ed was a proud member of the California Police Chiefs’ Association and a member in good standing with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Ed is also a proud graduate of the Advanced Leadership University, sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He served as Vice-President of the Board for the West Contra Costa Salesian Boys & Girls Club, in Richmond.
In 2013, Ed was a delegate member of the Richmond Sister City Committee visiting both Zhoushan, China and Shimada, Japan. It was then that Ed established a relationship with other committee members, and his commitment to the program. Ed is honored to serve this committee to further the partnership shared between Richmond and Zhoushan.
